About Department
The Department of Metallurgical Engineering is the only Department offering B.E., M.E. and Ph.D. programmes in the field of Metallurgical Engineering in the State of Gujarat. It has well equipped laboratories in the areas like Physical Metallurgy, Corrosion and Surface Protection, Powder Metallurgy, Welding & Foundry Technology and Process Metallurgy. Advanced research facilities such as SEM with EDAX, XRD, Image Analyser, DTA/TGA, Microhardness Testing facility, Induction Melting Unit, etc. have been developed in the Dept. through funding from agencies like UGC, DST, CSIR, AICTE, ADI, ARDB, BRNS, MHRD etc. The staff members of the Department are actively engaged in the research activities as a result of which there are several publications in the journals of national and international repute. Over the years the Department has strode the path of excellence and quest for quality in education and research. Consequently it has earned the recognition of being covered under the Special Assistance Programme (S.A.P.) of U.G.C., Govt. of India, Curriculum Improvement, Strengthening Industry Academia interaction, involvement with local professional bodies like IIM, IIF, IIW, ISNT etc. in organizing symposia, seminars, students programmes etc. and being in rapport with the alumni are some of the significant achievement of the Department. Recently department has received two infrastructure grants worth of Rs. 40 lacs from UGC. The entire electrical, water and gas pipe line and a laboratory infrastructure have been renovated from this grant. A separate seminar room with Audio-visual facility has been created for the benefits of students.
