The Department of Petrochemical Technology is academically part and partial of Chem. Engg. Deptt. at Faculty of Tech. & Engg. of M.S. University of Baroda was established in the academic year 1969-70 under the Indo-USSR agreement.|
The Petro Chemical Technology Department established in 1969-70, is the oldest as well as the most established department, in the state of Gujarat. It was started to meet the growing need for chemical engineers in Gujarat state, which embarked upon a phenomenal growth of the chemical and petrochemical industries since the sixties. The initial phase of the department was emphasized to meet the demand for chemical engineers in the state and development of the department was geared to train undergraduates in Petro chemical engineering.
The main strength of the department is its experienced and dedicated faculty. The department has good combination of senior highly experienced as well as young energetic/enthusiastic faculty members with postgraduate qualifications. The department strives continuously to orient its academics to cater to the changing outlook of the profession.
The Department boasts of a healthy industry institution with a large number of its postgraduates working out their research projects in various industries. For research work, the department interacts with various industries: IPCL, GSFC, Deepak Nitrite Ltd., CSMRI, KRIBHCO, Lupin Laboratories, NCL, etc. The Department shares a good rapport with these industries.
The modernization and strengthening of existing laboratories programme is necessary due to following reasons :
1. Changes in curriculum from time to time.
2. To implement modern instrumentation technology to improve technician skill.
3. To meet the technology innovations and development.
4. To improve teaching learning process.
5. To enhance the productivity of polytechnic education by achieving by cost effectiveness and relevance to need.
The course is conducted with 45 intake capacity for the S.S.C. passed students.
