Report of the one day Workshop on
‘Quality Culture : Self Responsibility’

The first session of the workshop was addressed by Mr. A.P. Singh , the senior Vice-President of Reliance Industries Ltd, Vadodara. In his address he focused on importance of quality culture in organization. He emphasized that to bring quality in any organization quality in management is the first requirement. When quality in management is there vision mission and appropriate action follows. The management becomes the example in the organization and the rest hierarchy follows it with commitment. He further emphasized on the intrinsic motivation as the motive behind the action determines the quality in person and his activeness in the organization. The sense of devotion towards any kind of work ensures the necessary skills to follow it. Next point he emphasized was the transecting boundaries from a teacher to Acharya to Guru in detail with interesting illustrations of 7-S model of excellence. The synergies 7-S ensures the effectiveness of quality culture. He also stressed on importance of collective action towards achieving mission. One important thing brought to the notice that too much of standardization curbs the process of creativity and autonomy of individuals in the organization so it should be flexible. He ended the session with an optimistic note that one should light the candle than curse the darkness.
The session followed by an interactive discussion with the participants.
The second address was on applying quality concept to the academic institutes by Mr. Suneel Karkare, the Chief Consultant for relationship Management. He shared the concerns for quality in education, the quality challenges before academic institutes, professionalizing our profession as the biggest challenge before academic institute. He described various basic concept of a quality management. Then he also explained the various determinants of quality of an academic institute with its quantitative and qualitative measures of academic performance. Lastly he emphasized on teachers own role in this academic institute and ended with the quote ‘training yourself for quality teaching and propogating quality culture in every operation’ which would mean working on vision, mission, governance and leadership, curriculum, instructional design, assessment, measurement and effective result resources, students services, interpersonal communication and relationships, physical facilities and continuous educational improvement. This followed with an interactive discussion.
In the post lunch session the workshop followed the presentation. The participants were divided into six different groups and each group were given one situation/topic on which they were asked to develop action plan / identification of indicators related to the topic. The group were given 20 minutes to discuss among themselves and one among the group took lead and made the presentation on the given subject. After all the presentations, Mr. Karkare concluded his session and workshop.
After this activity a session on the feedback was conducted by Dr. Amit Dholakia. A feed back questionnaire was given to all the participants with a request to fill the same and submit to Dr. Oza.
Dr. Deepti Oza concluded the workshop by sharing the concern to own the concept of quality in day to day academic and other activities of the departments and to prove oneself by becoming assets to the Institution. She further asked all present to give their word for working towards the goal of making our University feel proud of us.
