THE LABORATORY NURSURY SCHOOL OF DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENT & FAMILY STUDIES
Chetan Balwadi is a laboratory nursery school of the department of Human Development & Family Studies. It serves preschool age children Using a developmentally appropriate, play based program. The total Number of children in 2005 – 2006 in Chetan Balwadi was 93, with 34 Children in the reception class, 29 children in older group & 30 children In the kindergarten. The kindergarten children went to the 1st grade of Experimental School. The Balwadi serves as a training ground for Students of the department of Human Development & Family Studies. The Chetan Balwadi, besides its regular developmentally appropriate program for children, as usual, was involved in other activities too. The Balwadi together with Dept. of HDFS organized an Open House Workshops on Music movement, Story telling and Art Activities were organized. The festivals of Ganesh Chathusthi, Janmashtami, Navratri, Uttarayan, Diwali, Chirstmas, and ID were celebrated. Children want on a Picnic to “Karo Kankuna” and took ride in a “Tanga”. Children from Chetan Balwadi and Anand Balwadi visited eachother and participated in eachother’s program. Children from the Play Centre for Special Needs also are involved in all the activities. Children are integrated in all the three classes of Chetan Balwadi. A unique feature we have introduced is each child’s birthday is celebrated with a sweet dish prepared in the Balwadi Kitchen and served at lunch time. Return gifts, cakes, or chocolates are not allowed in the Balwadi. Some of the other highlights were, watching malkham, dance and bhavai performance, ride in toy train, graduation function of K.G. Children, swimming; Dabba Party. Workshop on ‘transition of children from home to school’ was organised for new parents. Each new child’s home was visited by the teacher. Teacher of Balwadi, Ms. Preeti Dharpale conducted workshops on Math, science, teaching aids. Teachers also participated in the National Conference of IAPE and in the Summer Institute organised by UGC-CAS.
