1. BACKGROUND
Government of India Notification dated 22nd July 1988
regarding revised pay scales stated that only those candidates who besides fulfilling
the minimum academic qualifications prescribed for the post of Lecturer, have
qualified in a comprehensive test, to be specifically conducted for the
purpose, will be eligible for appointment of Lecturer. UGC discussed the
question of qualifying test for first appointment as Lecturer with a group of
academicians, State education secretaries etc. in presence of the above
decision.
Accordingly, the UGC conducted the test for Junior Research Fellowship
and eligibility for Lectureship on
The test conducted by UGC and UGC/CSIR is referred as the National
Eligibility Test (NET) while the equivalent test conducted by the State
government is called State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) or State Eligibility
Test (SET). Some of the States like Maharashtra had earlier opted to conduct SLET
while, Gujarat Government decided, in principle, to conduct SLET vide
Government of Gujarat Education Department Resolution No MIS-1092-New
Item-10-dated 31/3/98. However its actual implementation got delayed due to the
time required for the clarification of some hitches.
2.SET IMPLEMENTATION

authorized as the Agency of the State Government to conduct State Eligibility
Test for the University and college teachers of

3. SCHEDULE FOR
THE CONDUCTION OF GSLET EXAM
The seventh Gujarat
SET Examination will be conducted on Sunday, 24th October, 2010.
4. STRUCTURE
OF THE SET EXAMINATION
(i)Number
of Papers: Three- Paper I, II and III will be conducted in
two separate sessions on the same day
(ii)Their purpose,
nature (design), duration, marks etc.
The purpose, nature,
duration, marks etc. of the papers in the test are as follows:
a) The test will consist of 3 papers: Paper I, II and III. All the
three papers will be held on one day in two separate sessions. Paper I
& II will be held in the first session and Paper III will be held in the
second session.
b) Paper I will be of general nature intended to assess the teaching /
research aptitude of a candidate. It will primarily be designed to test
reasoning and cognitive abilities and to assess the breadth of general
awareness and knowledge of sources of information. Cognitive abilities include comprehension,
analysis, evaluation, understanding the structure of arguments and deductive
and inductive reasoning. Questions related to the areas like interaction
between people, environment and natural resources and their impact on quality
of life may also be asked.
The paper II and
paper III will be selected by the candidates from one of the 20 subjects in
which test would be held by SET. The paper II and paper III will correspond to
the knowledge up to the post graduate level in that subject.
c) Paper I will be of 75 minutes duration and will carry a
maximum of 100 marks. This paper will consist of a test booklet
containing objective type items (questions) and 50 items are to be
attempted. The candidates will have to mark correct response for each item
on the answer sheet.
Paper II will be of 75 minutes duration and will carry a maximum of 100
marks. This paper will consist of a test booklet containing 50 objective
type questions as per syllabus of the subject selected by the candidate out of the
20 subjects in which SET would be held. The candidate will have to mark
correct response on the answer sheet.
Paper II will be held along with the Paper I in the first session.
Paper III will consist of critique, definitional specific answer type,
analytical/evaluative and essay type of questions from the syllabus on the
subject selected by the candidate out of those in which test would be
held. The paper will be held in second session of 150 minutes duration
and will carry a maximum of 200 marks. The candidate will be required to
attempt question in this paper on the space provided in the answer booklet.
(iii) Curriculum
and Syllabi for each subject
The curriculum and syllabi for each subject included in the SET will be
exactly the same as UGC-NET exam for the subjects falling under the category of
Humanities & Social Sciences and Joint CSIR-UGC NET Exam for Pure Sciences
like Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences & Life
Sciences.
5. MEDIUM FOR SET
Examination
The Medium for SET Examination will be English and
Gujarati. Medium of Instruction for all the Science Subjects (Mathematical
Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences and Computer
Science & Application) will be English only. Gujarati option will be given
for the subjects of Arts & Humanities except languages. However language
papers are to be answered in concerned language only.
6. DECLARATION OF RESULTS
The result will be communicated to each participating University
and also put on Internet Website. The result will be declared soon after
the Moderation Committee decides cut off marks in each subject.
