HERITAGE BUILDINGS

  • Arts Faculty Dome: The serene majestic structure in E shape shows an Indo-Sarcenic style with a dome second highest in Asia. The central Hall under dome was named Premanand Hall in 2001. The building was renovated in 2002-05.
  • Science Observatory: The building housing some departments in Science also houses the observatory. It is a heritage building.
  • Kalabhavan: Foundation laid in June 1890 by Maharaja Sayajirao III himself who stayed here temporarily while Laxmi Vilas Palace was being constructed. It was intended from the beginning to serve as Institute for Science and Technical Education with its good library, laboratory, work-shop, Dye-House. Initially, it taught 4 subjects; in 1987 more disciplines were added; in 1938 it became Engineering College with re-modelled workshop and in 1949, became a faculty.
  • White House: Constructed in 1833-34 during reign of Maharaja Sayajirao II. Originally known as Residency Bungalow, it served as office and residence for many British residents; after Independence served as residence for many well-known artist professors of Dance and Painting. Renovated and renamed Sayaji Bhavan in 2007, now it houses Sayaji Pratishthan and Centre for Thoughtronics.
  • Performing Arts: Formerly called MUSIC COLLEGE Magnificent Heritage Building made largely of wood on a stone plinth on slope, standing in a beautiful surrounding facing Sur Sagar Lake; it houses Music School since 1886-87.
  • Dhanvantary, Residence of Vice-chancellor: It used to be a residence of the royal physician. Its garden has more than this hostel.
  • D.N.Hall: Heritage Hostel building. In the first decade of 20th Century Shri K.M.Munshi and others were staying in this hostel.
  • Fine Arts (Formerly PUSHPA BAUG BUNGLOW) Fine Arts College was started here in 1950 with initial efforts of markand Bhatt Department of Painting, Sculpture etc. were started, other department (Museology, Applied Arts, Art History 7) were added later o. Among illustrious teachers are names like. K.K.Hebbar, Mani Subramanyam, Ratan Parimoo, Gulam Shaikh etc.
  • Experimental School: BARODA HIGH SCHOOL Formerly. The building designed by Sir W.Emerson in Indo-Sarcenic style with dome in Centre; with arches in Mughal, O-ghee and Buddhist styles and open corridors in front, was completed in 1918.
  • English Department in Faculty or Arts; the old building of the Department of English is also a heritage building.
