RICH LEGACY AND HERITAGE

  • Sri Aurobindo, Yogi and Philosopher par excellence was a professor, Vice principal for number of years in the then Baroda College in the first decade of 20th century. Acharya Vinoba Bhave, the great Bhudan leader was the student of Baroda College. Sri Sri Ravishankar, was awarded honorary degree by the University recently.
  • Dr. Sarva Palli Radhakrishnan was a member of Senate of the University, A.P.J. Abdul kalam was awarded honorary degree, before he became President of India. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India inaugurated the library of the university.
  • Outstanding National leaders like Shri K.M.Munshi, Rang Avdhoot, I.G.Patel and Sam Pitroda were students of the Baroda college.
  • Dr. Ambedkar was given a scholarship by the Maharaja to pursue higher studies in U.K.Later he joined Baroda State Service.
  • Dada SahePhalke was associated with the Baroda College. Kum. Lata Mangeshkar was awarded honorary degrees by the University recently.
  • Many of the students from the faculty of Law got to the highest office of judiciary (Justices Gujarat High Court) Justice like Justice Shri Kshitij Vyas, Shri Mohit Shah, Shri Akshay Mehta, Shri Kapadia.
  • The university had Smt. Hansa Mehta as the first Lady Vice-chancellor in the country and second in the world.
  • Great industrialist like Mukesh Ambani was awarded honorary degree by the University recently.
  • Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a student of the University Experimental School for some time.
  • Large numbers of Padma Awards have been conferred on teachers of the University like Padmabhushan on Prof. K.G.Subramanium, Prof. R.N.Mehta. Padmashree on Prof. N.S.Bendre. Prof. Sankho Chaudhary, Prof. Gulam Mohammad Shaikh, Shri Bhupen Khakkar.
