Professor P J Madan, Vice Chancellor, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda: 1975 – 1980 Equipped with double postgraduate degrees in engineering and the pure sciences from universities in Edinburgh and London, P J Madan began his career by enrolling with the Indian Army where he served as Commander of independent engineering units in staff appointments during World War. In the year 1947 he joined as Head of the department of Applied Mechanics and Structural Engineering of this university and 12 years later was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Engineering, The Maharaja Sayajirao University. He further served the university as pro-vice-chancellor between 1964 to 1974 and as vice chancellor from the year 1975 to 1980. During an illustrious career as academic and administrative head, Shri P J Madan was in charge and a member of many academic bodies and planning commissions at the university, state, and national level. The Professor P J Madan gold medal which is awarded to students of Bachelor of Engineering topping in the subject of electrical engineering reminds us of the significant contribution made by him at both academic and administrative levels to the fabric of the university.
