About Department

Instituted in 1964, the Department of Linguistics offers general and specialized courses at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. It is one of the few departments in the country to offer undergraduate courses in Linguistics and the only department in Gujarat state, to teach Linguistics in English. The Department of Linguistics offers courses in core branches of linguistics such as Morphology, Phonology, Syntax, Semantics and in various interdisciplinary areas such as Pragmatics, Semiotics, Psycholinguistics, Computational linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Applied linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Historical Linguistics and others.
